Algorithms for curvature calculation in Digital Terrain Modelling

Curvatures are fundamental terrain attributes, widely used in land surface analysis. The standard approach is to define curvatures for regular grid digital elevation models on the basis of a sliding window algorithm emphasizing height variation in a $3\times 3$ neighborhood of each sample point. In the talk I will discuss the challenge of defining curvatures directly for triangulated terrains by using suitable algorithms and I will briefly compare the two approaches.
