To understand the solution set of systems of polyomial equations (or inequalities), one may try to compute basic topological invariants associated with such sets.
Examples of such invariants are the number of connected components, the Euler-Poincare characteristic or the Betti numbers. The talk describes recent joint work with Prof. F. Cucker, which aims at classifying the computational complexity to compute such quantities.
