Algebra=Geometry

This talk is aimed at those uninitiated to algebraic geometry and will highlight one of the most beautiful features of the field, the fact that algebra and geometry unite in solving problems arising on either side. I will present two examples. One of them is a purely geometric problem with a purely algebraic solution and another one the other way around. Prerequisites will be kept to a bare minimum and everyone is invited to interrupt and ask for clarification.
