Nests, Whirls, and Twists

At the 1989 Summer School on Computational Geometry in Saarbrücken, Pierre Rosenstiehl gave a seminal lecture on the above topics. In this talk, I will survey some of the developments connected to these topics. The developments took place between 1988 and 1996 and have mostly been forgotten by the community. I will try to make the point, though, that they are still interesting from today's point of view.
